The pair displayed the books on the small screen for the Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and DB Weiss left the forthcoming Star Wars trilogy, due to be launched in 2022.
The news comes after an exclusive contract with Netflix was signed by the pair
“There are only so many hours in the day that we couldn’t do justice to both Star Wars and Netflix projects,” Deadline read a statement.
They continue that “getting to talk about Star Wars” with creator George Lucas had been “the thrill of a lifetime”.
They added: “We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too.”
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said they would be welcomed back in the future. “Amazing storytellers are David Benioff and Dan Weiss,” she said.
“We hope that they are included in the journey forward if they can step away from their busy schedule to concentrate on Star Wars.”
Following this December’s The Rise of Skywalker, the final chapter of the Skywalker family chronicles, the trilogy is due to be the next set of Star Wars films, according to a release schedule announced in May.
The next movies are planned for 2022, 2024 and 2026, and are set to launch the famous franchise into a new era.
When the two authors were announced as the writers behind the new Star Wars movies last February, there was a lot of fanfare.
