Beastly Books is adjacent to the picture house of Jean Cocteau and promises to stock copies of the books of the author of the Game of Thrones
George RR Martin has opened a bookshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, while his long-awaited novel The Winds of Winter has not yet been stored.
The Beastly Books shop next door has now been opened by the Song of Ice and Fire author, who bought the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe 2013.
The shop is named in honor of what Martin said was Cocteau’s most popular film, Beauty and the Beast, as well as with the same title “a certain TV show I worked on in the 80’s.”
Martin said that after hosting talks and signings from “dozens of great, award-winning, bestselling writers” at the cinema, he and his team decided to open the shop. “All of them signed for us stock.
Martin wrote on his blog. The only problem was the Jean Cocteau lobby was far too small for us to display all of these wonderful autographed books,” he added, “With that in mind … we opened our own bookshop right next to the theatre … Do come by and visit us the next time you come to the Land of Enchantment. Beastly Books. Hear us roar!”
Beastly Books, he said, will also be hosting a huge stock of signed copies of Martin’s own books. what it doesn’t sell, at least for now, The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in A Song of Ice and Fire, his fantasy sequence on which HBO’s Game of Thrones is based. When he visits New Zealand for WorldCon, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, Martin promised the book will be done by next summer.
