In 216 episodes of the show from 1985, Fergusson played the opinionated Marina.
She has starred in ITV soap Coronation Street numerous times, most recently playing Dorothy Hoyle’s role until 2011.
She also had a theatre’s career and in 1998 she was nominated for an Olivier award to play the British comic, actress and performer Hylda Baker in the music hall. The death of the actress follows that of her former Last of the Summer Wine colleague Juliette Kaplan in October.
Fergusson did a lot of scenes in Last of the Summer Wine with Robert Fyfe
Fergusson was born on December 30, 1944 and grew up near Wakefield in the village of Woolley.
“I’ve very fond memories of a happy childhood, and going to the village school – long closed now, of course,” she said that in 2009. “We’d stretch a line across the road and make that into our ‘tennis net’. There was so little traffic back then that we rarely had to take it down.”
The family later shifted to Wales, where Fergusson learned to perform at The Castle (the Royal Welsh Music and Drama College). Before it became Marina’s role in Last of the Summer Wine, Fergusson had forged a successful theatre’s career and was seldom out of work.

The bicycle had to be sold
In the 1990s, while making Last of the Summer Wine, Fergusson researched and wrote the one-woman show She Knows, You Know! About Hylda Baker’s life and decline.
Fergusson had admired Baker since childhood and she found herself receiving the Olivier nomination for the best entertainment show when she took the show to London’s West End stage.
The first foray to Coronation Street by Fergusson came while she was still making Last of the Summer Wine. She came to play Mrs Mallett’s part in 1999. After the end of Last of the Summer Wine, she later returned to the soap to play Dorothy Hoyle from 2010 to 2011.
In 2014, when she moved from Yorkshire to London and found that she had no space for it, Fergusson sold off the bike she was given from Last of the Summer Wine. At the auction, it made £ 500. Fergusson said, “If I could have kept it, I would have done,” “but I’ll let some wonderful fan have the pleasure of it.”
