Snapchat has started live testing a new mode called ‘ Cameo ‘ , allowing users to insert their faces into GIFs, adding their own unique spin to a selection of short video clips.
The new feature is currently being tested among selected users in France, as first stated by TechCrunch, with a view to a complete release later this month, ahead of the holiday period.
The new feature could quickly gain popularity and become another key trend among Snapchat users, with users likely looking for something to do during long commutes to see family-or indeed, when searching for an escape from actually seeing family.
You will be able to access the process for creating your Cameo via the message keyboard within the app.
Snapchat says about 150 short video clips will initially be available for Cameo, with audio, with new ones coming each week.
While Instagram stole Stories, and Facebook is trying to overtake AR, you’d be hard-pressed to find a main AR trend like this originating from Facebook or Instagram, yet you might think of a few coming from Snapchat.
Facebook and others have more resources available, but Snap doesn’t replicate something so easily. And dedicated usage is being rewarded for such, which could ultimately also help drive better results through its ads.
From December 18th, Snapchat Cameo will be rolled out to all users (iOS and Android).
